NKOS are the ultimate slow-burn project… moving at a truly glacial pace, from clubbing friends to studio sessions, to releasing singles, over almost a decade – but always moving inexorably to this point, the release of their magnificent debut album ‘From Dust To Life’.
Comprising four artists from very different backgrounds – and locations – NKOS are bonded by friendship, the internet and a love of deep, edgy electronica. Their very first review – an exclusive premier of ‘Little Miss Numb’ on postpunk.com – hit the nail firmly on the head, ‘a spine tingling electronic music track for fans of new-wave, post-punk, trip-hop, electro and anything in-between’.
NKOS provide the dystopian soundtrack to a journey through the urban nightscape… their cinematic qualities soundtracking late nights, late bars, dingy clubs, the energy, urgency & creativity, cheek by jowl with scumminess and sleaze… and neon lights reflecting in the rain, it’s the sound of Soho before the corporate sanitised remix took hold – and David Lynch would direct the movie.
Bolstered by a brand new publishing deal and 2 tracks placed centre-stage in a major TV series (coming soon!), via an, ahem, ‘global-streaming service’, NKOS will now wrap their beats tightly around you, their sound perfectly suited to the long play format, tweaked, mixed and mastered both in-house and by the skilled & sought after hands on deck of Maurizio Baggio (The Soft Moon; Boy Harsher), and Jagz Kooner (Massive Attack, Primal Scream) who co-produced three tracks in the early stages of the project.
NKOS describe their sound as ‘multifaceted, it easily goes from dark to light’ whilst ‘dense, trippy, and kaleidoscopic simultaneously is the verdict of Aupium. Mixing the mood and feel of 1980’s Cocteau Twins, Cure and Siouxsie with 90’s trip-hop and right now know-how, NKOS have delivered the perfect soundtrack for our dystopian present.
About NKOS
NKOS are Flavio Manieri, Chris Shape, Nancy Natali and Marcus Billeri. They blend lush vocals, production savvy, old school musicianship & dj skills into a real live band. Drawn together through a love of all things 4AD and a good night out, they are where trip hop meets the dance floor, and where electronica meets indie. The end results move seamlessly “from light to dark”.
Brought together through luck, friendships & the internet, their diverse influences are their strength, bringing a powerful meld of edge with harmony, synth with techno, industrial and electro. Their dense innovative sound drew praise and immediate interest from such luminaries as Jagz Kooner (production/ mix credits inc Massive Attack, Primal Scream, Manics, Rammstein) who, in the early stages of the projec got behind the controls & has brought additional production on three tracks on the album.
After releasing 4 singles to great reviews, NKOS are now ready to share their debut “From Dust To Life”.
